ROB CANNON

Hello all and sorry we won't be able to make it down this year. We will be returning from vacation the day before and logistically can't make it work. I'd like to fill you all in on our lives over the past 5 years, and 25 years for those I didn't see at the last reunion.

I am married to a wonderful woman and my best friend Melanie. We met when I was in the Navy at NAS Miramar in San Diego. I was in a fighter squadron (VF-lll) for 4 years after college. We decided that the Navy was not my career and I had more to offer the world, so we moved back up to Washington State and settled in Auburn, a small town approx. 20 miles from Seattle and about the same distance from Tacoma. I went to work for New York Life Insurance in February 1981 and have had a wonderful career. It has afforded us everything we could ever want in life and great satisfaction. I have also

been very active in our community and believe you need to give something back. I am the past President of our local chamber as well as past president of our Kiwanis club. I am currently President-elect of my professional guild

(National Association of Insurance and Financial Planners) and my firm specializes in Estate Planning, even though we insure families and businesses too. Melanie has been my office manager for the past 15 years and is very good at her job. (She runs the office!) I feel that people should work exclusively within their unique abilities and I try to surround myself with the best of the best. We do have fun!

I have two wonderful kids, Rebecca (Becky)(17) and Ryan (15). We have been very blessed and are surviving the teen years nicely. Becky is the academic of the family and is a Junior. She is on the National Honor Roll and thank God has had many academic scholarship offers. I have no idea where she inherited those smart genes, but she is a joy. Very level and "Daddies Girl." Ryan is the spitting image of me. I can't believe it, but he is just like I was. Live for today, have as many friends as you can, play football and don't worry about school for this too shall pass. (I still can't figure out how I made it through college!) We're hoping he either comes of age or joins the Service. He's a great kid though, real involved with football and Young Life. He loves to skateboard. Yep he's a snow boarder and skate boarder, but he doesn't carry the attitude or where the dumb clothes. (Can you believe I said that! Oh Dad!!!).

We enjoy boating and currently own a 38' Bayliner Motor Yacht. In fact we even joined the yacht club! No, it's not stuffy as portrayed on TV. Just a group of great people with something in common. We cruise monthly. Living in the beautiful Pacific N.W. and having the Puget Sound out of your back door, what could be nicer. This is truly my passion (and Melanie's too)

Sanctuary... We will be up in the San Juan's for two weeks, in fact that's where we will be just prior to the reunion.

I've met up with Vicky Pollock Smith during our last reunion and she lives in West Seattle. We try to have lunch every quarter. She's doing very well and her husband Eric and her are boaters as well. We will be seeing them in the San Juan's at the end of the month. Cindy Gheen comes up to my area every year so I get to see her once in a while. She looks great and has a beautiful daughter, Jordyn. Susan Axtel De Buhr keeps in touch and is doing very well compared to how she was at the 20th reunion. Thank God she is on the mend and now is married. A lot of prayers went her way. Give her my best when you see her. I haven't seen my old friend Sabra Young since High School, but keep a breast of how she's doing through her sister who lives in my area. Again, if she shows, say hi.

My memories are so very fond of you all. We were the envy of the generation when it came to having such a close net group of friends. I smile often when I remember what we got away with (And smile wider when my Son tries the same). Thank you all for everything, have a great reunion and keep in touch. Please pass on my e-mail address. I'd love to be reunited with you.

Continued success to you,

Rob Cannon

BETSY BROWNHILL

My family includes two children, Vanessa and Blake, and John, my husband of 18 years. We have resided in Bend for the past nine years. Prior to that we moved many times due to John's work as a civil engineer for a large construction company. We have lived in the following states: California, Washington, Indiana, Utah, Virginia, and Hawaii. During that time my career was in a holding pattern. Since settling in Bend I have been able to resume teaching and coaching. I spent six years at Bend Senior High School teaching health, physical education and a variety of other subjects. This past school year I was transferred to Cascade Middle School where I taught p.e. I have been heavily involved with the girls basketball program at BSH for the last seven years. I served as an assistant coach at the varsity and j.v. levels and have been the head freshman coach for the past two years. In addition, I have coached a traveling team of younger girls for four years. This spring I had a great time coaching track at CMS.

It is so much fun to be involved with young people. I really enjoy what I do and am often reminded of my own junior high and high school experiences as a result. Therefore, many of you come to mind!

My work also brings me in contact with the children of our Sheldon High classmates. What a joy to see the wonderful people they have produced. From our class I have had the pleasure of teaching Brian Lewis (Jim's son) and Matea Haugen

(Greg's daughter). Other Sheldon connections include: Brad Mombert (Les' son) and Brittney Hayes (Don Hayes and Sue Boyum's daughter).

There are many Sheldon grads here in Bend. My path doesn't often cross with many of them, but occasionally I do see Cindy Gheen and Nancy Blair. Karen Cardon Gray visits her family members here and she is great about calling or stopping by.

Aside from my passion for basketball we also attend all of the Duck football home games. It is truly a Brownhill family affair as my parents, sisters, brothers-in-law and nieces all get together. We traditionally gather at our curbside parking place at Autzen Stadium before and after the games. Feel free to stop by our tailgate to visit! :-)

So sorry to miss out on seeing all of you at the reunion. I am sure you will have a great time! I will be in Malibu with my basketball team attending a team camp at Pepperdine University. Enjoy your time together!

BOB LATHEN

Hi everyone. Thanks, to Vicki, I can chat with so many of you, my long last friends. Other than Vicki, I have not kept in touch with you (sorry). I live with my wife and 4 children in Littleton, Colorado (which by now you all have heard about, fortunately my kids are not in Columbine High School where the shootings occurred). I am the Corporate Tax Director/CPA for CH2M Hill (which started over 50 years ago in Corvallis and is now a billion dollar world wide engineering firm). I love it here, especially the wild and serene mountains and the sunshine.

Wow, I remember dancing in 'MY Fair Lady" with Sandy, studying and joking and having "serious discussions" with Nancy (having come from an all boy family Nancy "verbally" taught me about girls) , envying how all the girls liked Rob, wishing I lived in Coburg with Geary (my wife Becky knew you), and having severe crushes on Laurie Funke (it did not help that we were partners in Dick Arbuckle's sex ed class), likewise having crushes for Jeri (including good times at Karen Cardon's house), fishing and hanging out in our bachelor's ed class with one of my best friends - - Jim (who I have not seen since graduation, do you still have all those record albums??), and who could forget about quiet but the extremely nice and cute Nancy Welch??.

Sorry to all that I can't make it to the reunion. My heart is full of good and fond memories of all of you. God bless you all for the good memories. See you later (and my house is your house if you ever want to come skiing or visit the beautiful state of Colorado).

Cheers, Bob Lathen.

SANDY BERAN

"It's wonderful how everyone stays in touch and keeps these reunions going!
I don't make it down to Eugene very often since my parents moved to San
Diego.

I have been living in Vancouver, BC with my husband Tracy since 1983.  We
have three children:  Lauren (11), Cameron (9) and Emma (7); and to make the
suburbia picture complete - - a dog and cat!

I am very active in the kids' school and sports and work part-time as a
career consultant.  This involves everything from individual counseling,
recruitment, downsizing relocation, and seminars for businesses and college
settings.  I can keep it balanced with the kids' busy life (often known as
NO SLEEP!), so it works out well.

I love living in Canada and became a dual citizen last year, so I can now
vote (and unfortunately, pay taxes!) for two countries.

My husband's business involves a great deal of work with London, England, so
I had the pleasure to spend time there last year.  I met Tracy while
traveling there in 1981 and this was my first time back since then, so it
was wonderful.  Our family hopes to spend the summer there in the year 2000.

British Columbia is similar to Oregon in so many ways particularly in the
outdoor sports.  We have three skiing facilities all within a half hour
drive (Whistler Resort is 60 miles away), emphasis on ice-skating (it is
Canada after all), camping, outdoor sports incl. boating since we are a
coastal town.  With Seattle being 150 miles away, there is a great deal of
"Americanization" here, so I never feel out of touch especially since there
are so many Americans who have relocated here.

Have a wonderful reunion, everyone, with much appreciation to Vicki Maxon
for keeping me informed!
